What is the difference between a catheter and a urine bag?

2024-10-12

Catheter is a flexible tube inserted into the bladder to drain urine. It can be used for short term or long-term purposes, helping patients who cannot urinate noemally due to conditions like post-surgery, urinary retention, or certain medical issues.

Urine bag is a collection device attached to the catheter to store the drained urine. Typically made of plastic, urine bags come in different sizes and designs, some suitable for nighttime use and others for daytime activities. They are designed for convenience and hygiene, allowing patients to collect urine safely and comfortably.

The catheter facilitates urine drainage, while the urine bag collects and stores it, often used together for effective urine management in patients.
