The latest developments in the field of enteral nutrition have concentrated on international conferences and clinical research. For example, the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) addressed the application and innovation of enteral nutrition in critically ill patients, cancer patients and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients at the 2024 Annual Meeting. It has been demonstrated that patients in critical condition are susceptible to malnutrition in the context of stress. Clinical studies conducted in accordance with the standards set forth by the Global Leadership Initiative for Nutrition (GLIM) have indicated that nutritional support strategies during the acute phase are crucial for patients' recovery.
Furthermore, the latest nutritional strategies for patients with inflammatory bowel disease include the use of total enteral nutrition (EEN) to induce remission during the onset of the disease, while partial enteral nutrition (PEN) combined with drug therapy is recommended during the remission period to reduce the risk of relapse.
Nutritional intervention for sarcopenia is also a significant focus of this annual meeting. The study emphasised the assessment of skeletal muscle morphology and function to determine the nutritional status of patients and formulate corresponding intervention measures. This approach is of great significance to improving the quality of life of patients and reducing mortality.
