Safety Syringe aids in the prevention of needlestick injuries by allowing the user to retract the needle into the barrel after medication delivery, covering the needle and locking it in place. Main structure of sterile safety syringe: RPF, barrel, plunger, piston are in interference fit, so as to make sure of seal.

3.   Feature of Safety Syringes

1. Single use.

2. Easy to use and thus need little instruction, training or explanation before use.

3. Ready to use upon opening and are pre-sterilized which eliminates the need for any other sterilizing equipment.

4. Luer slip and luer lock available.

4.   Direction for use of Safety Syringes

1. Remove syringe from package and discard tip cap. Recapping is not necessary with this syringe.

2. Draw medication from vial.

3. To transport syringe, extend the shield forward until you hear and feel a click. The needle is now protected for transport but the syringe is not permanently locked.

4. To give injection, slide shield back to its original position exposing the needle. Perform injection following facility protocol.

5. To permanently lock syringe, extend shield forward until it clicks, then twist the shield in either direction until it clicks again to indicate final lock.

6. Discard permanently locked syringe in an approved sharps container.
